Assignment #9- The Creation of Lycabettus Hill

Lycabettus Hill
I will now finally tell you the completed version of my tale. One seemingly average afternoon I decided to take a voyage to Hephaestus' workshop in need of new weapons. The building in which Hephaestus created his metal masterpieces was dark and small, and radiated large amounts of heat. I welcomed myself into the petite workshop and began searching for my companion when almost out of thin air Hephaestus began to throw himself onto me. In a burst of shock and confusion, I attempted to push him away from me, but he felt so much affection that he continuously tried to approach me. I was in utter shock, at the time of the event I was unaware that Aphrodite had recently been unfaithful to him, and I also did not know that my uncle, Poseidon, had misled Hephaestus and informed him that I held feeling of my own for him. After I succeeded in throwing Hephaestus off of me, I had to wipe my thigh clean of the remnants from the disturbing event. I grasped a piece of wool, wiping my thigh clean of any fluids, and tossed it to the floor in disgust. In the act of tossing the wool onto the earth, a hideous serpent like child arose from seemingly nowhere. I grabbed the child of the earth, quickly naming him Erichthonius, and placed him in a basket laced with two snakes for protection. I sent the young creature to Athens, not wanting to care for the him and not wanted to be in association with him. I did not just send him to Athens with no place to reside. I put him in the custody of another child of the earth, named Cecrops.  Cecrops had three daughters who helped with the raising of Erichthonius. The three daughters, Aglauros, Herse, and Pandrosos, never took a glance at the horrific sight of the serpent child when raising him, except for one evening. The three sisters were joking with one another one day and decided to take a quick glimpse at the child within the basket who they had been taking care of. At one sudden look, the sisters were so terrified by the ugliness that they feel from atop a cliff, and died. After this horrific event, the news reached my fairly quickly. When finding out about the death of the girls, I was in such extreme distress, grief and anger that I threw a rock into the air, trying to release all of the pain that I was feeling. When throwing up the rock, a huge hill was created. The hill that was formed from the act of me throwing the rock in sadness and anger, was later named Lycabettus Hill. The tale which I just told you was not a happy tale, and it did not have a jolly ending like some stories, but I wanted to share it with you, and I hope that you enjoyed reading about one of the many tales that involved my life.

Assignment #8- Resolution

To conclude my story, I need to resolve the conflict that I shared with you earlier. After the birth of Erichthonius and after sending him to Athens, as you know, the three young women taking care of him were killed. In despair after hearing of this occurrence, I threw a rock up into the air in a burst of displeasure. When throwing up that rock A huge hill was created. It was later called Lycabettus Hill. The resolution of my tale is not completely comforting, but my anger was lessened after throwing the rock into the air.

Assignment #7- Climax

Shortly after the conflict occurs in my story, the climax arouses. After putting Erichthonius in a basket with two snakes, I sent him off to Athens. Within Athens the three sisters took care of the young, serpent like child. During the time in which they took care of him though, they never even took a glance at his face. Over foolish games one evening, the sisters dared one another to look at Erichthonius. After a quick look, the sisters fell in fear off of the side of a mountain. Shortly after. Athena found out. Upon the news, Athena was utterly miserable.

Assignment #6- Conflict

The tale I wish to tell you holds a very scandalous conflict. When arriving to Hephaestus' workshop in a need for weapons he found a large attraction towards me which was partly prompted by Poseidon's tricking. He was also mourning the loss of his wife, Aphrodite, who had recently been unfaithful to him with another god. Hephaestus was told that I also carried feelings for him. Driven by the false information giving by Poseidon, along with his personal thoughts and feelings, Hephaestus threw himself towards me. As the virgin goddess I demanded to stay pure, but Hephaestus was overcome with desire and continued to approach me. I stuck to my values and continued to deny his love and pushed him away. This incident was sudden and uncalled-for because Hephaestus and I had been fairly close companions.  I had always gone to him when I was in need of metal work and he had never hinted to having an attraction to me. In the action of throwing Hephaestus off of me, his bodily fluids spilled on my leg. Grabbing a piece of wool, I wiped the fluid from my thigh and threw it to the ground. This created a half serpent child, who I named Erichthonius.

Assignment #5- Character Development

Within the story of how the Lycabettus Hill was created, there are a few characters in which I need to describe for you.

Hephaestus: Hephaestus is the god of fire and metal work, and I once strongly relied on him for the production of any weapons that I needed made. He's an incredibly ugly sight and is also known as the lame god, for he became crippled due to the fall from Olympus. He holds a strong attraction to me, even though he was previously married to my sister, Aphrodite, who was not loyal to him. He is not a kind god in my eyes. I personally hold a strong dislike towards him.

Aphrodite:As the goddess of love, many men aspire to have relationship with Aphrodite. Hephaestus was once married to Aphrodite but she later cheated on him. Aphrodite is known for her immense beauty, though I believe that there should be more to a woman than just her physical appearance. She is also my sister, though I do not like to admit it.

Erichthonius: Poor Erichthonius was the result of the tale that I am going to tell you in the recent future. He is the son of Earth and is a half serpent who arose from the ground. Though I hate to say it, he is a ghastly sight. Little about his personality was shown at the time the story occurred due to the fact that he was so young.

Aglauros, Herse, and Pandrosos: The three daughters of Agraulos and Cecrops. Cecrops was also a son of the Earth and took care of the young Erichthonius with the help of his three daughters. The daughters often carried the basket which contained Erichthonius.

Poseidon: The god of the Sea. Poseidon is also my uncle. He contended with me to become the patron deity of Athens, but I succeeded above him. He is not very fond of me, and we do not get along. He is the reason for all of the problems that occur within the tale that I am soon to tell you.
