Assignment #5- Character Development

Within the story of how the Lycabettus Hill was created, there are a few characters in which I need to describe for you.

Hephaestus: Hephaestus is the god of fire and metal work, and I once strongly relied on him for the production of any weapons that I needed made. He's an incredibly ugly sight and is also known as the lame god, for he became crippled due to the fall from Olympus. He holds a strong attraction to me, even though he was previously married to my sister, Aphrodite, who was not loyal to him. He is not a kind god in my eyes. I personally hold a strong dislike towards him.

Aphrodite:As the goddess of love, many men aspire to have relationship with Aphrodite. Hephaestus was once married to Aphrodite but she later cheated on him. Aphrodite is known for her immense beauty, though I believe that there should be more to a woman than just her physical appearance. She is also my sister, though I do not like to admit it.

Erichthonius: Poor Erichthonius was the result of the tale that I am going to tell you in the recent future. He is the son of Earth and is a half serpent who arose from the ground. Though I hate to say it, he is a ghastly sight. Little about his personality was shown at the time the story occurred due to the fact that he was so young.

Aglauros, Herse, and Pandrosos: The three daughters of Agraulos and Cecrops. Cecrops was also a son of the Earth and took care of the young Erichthonius with the help of his three daughters. The daughters often carried the basket which contained Erichthonius.

Poseidon: The god of the Sea. Poseidon is also my uncle. He contended with me to become the patron deity of Athens, but I succeeded above him. He is not very fond of me, and we do not get along. He is the reason for all of the problems that occur within the tale that I am soon to tell you.

  1. I support your decision that a woman has more than her appearance. Although I am still wrapped up in my own, I think that Kronos' actions changed my opinion on what a woman can do. Are you indicating that Cecrops might be related to me?

  2. Rhea-
Thank you for supporting my decision, I am pleased to hear that you see more to yourself than just a face. I do not believe that Cecrops has a relation to you after looking into it further.

  3. You did an excellent job of giving a detailed description of all those involved in this particular myth. It was also great to see pictures of all of the characters to have a visual also. Excellent work!
